How long will a Segway PT last?

The Segway PT has been designed to be extremely durable. Mechanical and electrical systems are solid state. The motors are brushless servomotors, so there are no moving parts that can wear out. Any moving parts were designed for longevity. Parts are modular, so if any wear out or break, they can be easily replaced.

Where can I get my Segway PT serviced?

How is the Segway PT powered?

Segway PTs are battery-powered. You can charge your Segway PT from household current at a standard outlet. It takes 8 to 10 hours to charge an empty battery fully.

Can I charge my Segway PT from my car or boat?

Yes, a Segway PT can be charged while driving in your car or boat by using a suitable DC to AC power inverter. Each Segway PT typically consumes approximately 140 Watts of power while charging. However, due to charger startup requirements, we recommend that inverters have a power capacity of at least 35r0 watts for each Segway PT being charged. Power inverters that produce either square or sinusoid waveform output are suitable for charging the Segway PT.

Does the Segway PT work indoors?

Yes. Every Segway PT is designed to work anywhere people walk. In order to support indoor operation, the tires are non-marring. The Segway PT is narrower than a standard doorway and is clean and quiet. There are zero emissions.

How fast can the Segway PT travel?

Each Segway PT is equipped with two operational settings: “beginner” or “turtle” mode and “standard” mode. The beginner setting is set to 6 mph/13 kph and the standard setting is set to travel up to 12.5 mph/20 kph: roughly equivalent to a 5-minute mile.

How far can the Segway PT travel on a single charge?

On a single charge the PT can support up to 24 miles (38 km) of travel. Keep in mind that travel distances are dependent on payload, riding style, and terrain. In addition, batteries will recharge when traveling down hills.

Where is the Segway PT manufactured?

Segway PTs are assembled in a facility in Bedford, NH.


What should I wear and bring on my tour?

Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes—not heels, sandals, or flip flops. It’s good to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and water. It can often be chilly by the beach even in the summer, so have a light jacket or sweater.

What weather cancels a tour or my Segway PT rental?

Meet at our store at 1431 Ocean Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90401.

Park in the City parking garage one street east of us on 2nd St between Broadway and Santa Monica.  The first 3 hours is $3.10. Each additional 30 minutes is $1.85 with a daily max of $17.50.  There is also underground valet parking in our building for approx $18 for the day.


Meet at the Pierpoint Landing parking lot, 200 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, CA 90802. Park in the same lot. Fees are $2 per hour with a max of $12.


Meet at the Ports O’ Call parking lot, 1199 Nagoya Way, San Pedro, CA 90731. The tour meets across the lot opposite the Ports O’Call Restaurant. Parking is free.

Can I use public transportation do get to your store or your tours?

How old do I have to be to rent a Segway PT or go on a tour?

You must be a minimum of 12 years old and weigh at least 100 lbs (45 kg). If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must sign a liability release and accompany you on the rental or tour.

Who can ride the Segway PT?

After receiving a training session, almost anyone can ride the Segway PT. No special skills are required. The rider must be able to step on and off the Segway PT without assistance—similar to climbing or going down stairs without using a handrail. The rider must also weigh between 100 and 250 lbs.

How safe is the Segway PT?

The utmost care and research have gone into ensuring the Segway PT is safe. It has redundant systems and sophisticated alerts built into its design and many thousands of hours of use have demonstrated that the Segway PT is safe when used appropriately. It is important that riders understand their responsibility to ride safely. Proper skill level and understanding of the Segway PT prevents injuries caused by loss of control or misuse. Keep in mind that the Segway PT has not been designed, tested, or approved as a medical device.

Is it okay to ride my Segway PT on a sidewalk? Are any places off limits?

The Segway PT is designed to operate any place you can safely walk. It can transport you over any surface where wheels can gain traction, such as roads, sidewalks, grass, and dirt. You can take the Segway PT any place where you are allowed to walk, private property excluded. In California, the state passed a law to classify the Segway PT as a pedestrian. Please note that the Third Street Promenade is closed to Segway riders as is the Santa Monica Pier and private property such as Santa Monica Place.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

When you rent a Segway from us or go on a tour, we require that you wear a helmet.

How far can I ride my rental Segway PT?

The Segway PT can travel up to 24 miles on a single charge depending on riding conditions.

Is there a deposit required for rental?

We run an authorization on your credit card in an amount up to the total due.
