Buying & Owning
The Segway PT has been designed to be extremely durable. Mechanical and electrical systems are solid state. The motors are brushless servomotors, so there are no moving parts that can wear out. Any moving parts were designed for longevity. Parts are modular, so if any wear out or break, they can be easily replaced.
Segway PTs are battery-powered. You can charge your Segway PT from household current at a standard outlet. It takes 8 to 10 hours to charge an empty battery fully.
Yes, a Segway PT can be charged while driving in your car or boat by using a suitable DC to AC power inverter. Each Segway PT typically consumes approximately 140 Watts of power while charging. However, due to charger startup requirements, we recommend that inverters have a power capacity of at least 35r0 watts for each Segway PT being charged. Power inverters that produce either square or sinusoid waveform output are suitable for charging the Segway PT.
Yes. Every Segway PT is designed to work anywhere people walk. In order to support indoor operation, the tires are non-marring. The Segway PT is narrower than a standard doorway and is clean and quiet. There are zero emissions.
Each Segway PT is equipped with two operational settings: “beginner” or “turtle” mode and “standard” mode. The beginner setting is set to 6 mph/13 kph and the standard setting is set to travel up to 12.5 mph/20 kph: roughly equivalent to a 5-minute mile.
On a single charge the PT can support up to 24 miles (38 km) of travel. Keep in mind that travel distances are dependent on payload, riding style, and terrain. In addition, batteries will recharge when traveling down hills.
Segway PTs are assembled in a facility in Bedford, NH.
